Gorgeous old pair of tall china candlesticks, Mason's England ironstone with hand painted enamel in jewel colors and black. These are 5" across the bases, a bit over 12" tall, weighty.

These are sort of a Chinoiserie design, maybe parrots, maybe Indian tree - tree of life with birds? The paint is slightly raised, as if in imitation of cloisonne.

We haven't been able to track down anything close to similar, but we do know that the Mason's Patent Ironstone mark on the bottom was used in a few variations over most of the 19th century, and possibly early 20th century as well.

We would guess these are at least 100 years old, and perhaps very much older. One stick was broken clean in half and repaired at some point - it's barely visible, and doesn't really detract from this beautiful antique pair at all.
