Antique blacksmith's tool for using with the hammer and anvil, a large handled cold chisel. This tool has an eye through the body of the chisel to receive a wood handle. With a handled chisel, a blacksmith could cut through metal on the anvil face while keeping his hand out of the range of the swinging hammer (especially useful when using a large sledge hammer with a helper swinging the sledge!)
The wood handle is worn and cracked.
