Very old coffee pot with wooden handle and glass knob on the lid, measures 11 1/2" tall. The tole decoration is really lovely, beautifully done. It's signed and dated '90, and though we originally thought "1990, of course", the longer we look at this, the less certain we are.
We've seen toleware from the 1890s fairly often, and the paint generally looks good unless a piece has seen considerable use. We know that 1890s would be about right for the age of the coffee pot, but then it's likely that a talented artist would choose an older piece when painting items in a vintage style.
This came out of a farm sale in northern Illinois, and all we know of this estate with regard to painted pieces was that we also saw a gorgeous handpainted sugar bucket dated 1958, which is a little old, or a little young, to have been done by the same painter!
We're selling this presuming that the pot is old and the painting is new... so no one will be disappointed. We think you'll be delighted with this piece regardless of the age of the paint, it's so pretty.
