Lot of two old antique hand cranked food choppers or meat grinders from an old farm kitchen. One grinder is marked "Russwin - No. 1" made by the "Russell & Edwin Mfg Co., New Britain, Conn". It is marked with a US patent date of 1902. It has an unusual hinged design, allowing the body of the chopper to open up for cleaning. The other grinder is a "Universal Food Chopper No. 1" and is marked with an 1899 patent date.

These hand tools were used in farm kitchens during harvest time in the farm garden, to speed up all the chopping, and dicing needed to preserve the family's yearly supply of vegetables, pickles, relishes, sauces, etc. and also at butchering time for grinding meat and making sausage.

The Universal grinder has an extra cutter made for a finer (less course) texture. They both have wood handles and measure about 2.25" across the body and 6" high (when measured from the table top). They have some light rust from age. The wooden board is not included.
